FREWSBURG, N.Y. - Charles M. Leichner, 85, of 1004 Wigren Road, Frewsburg, passed away peacefully Sunday (Feb. 23, 2014) at WCA Hospital in Jamestown.
The Guest Book is expired.
Chuck was born Sept. 23, 1928, in Corydon, Pa. He was the son of the late George and Gladys Sparks Leichner. After graduating from Bradford (Pa.) High School, Chuck went on to serve his country with the U.S. Air Force.
Following his military service, Chuck began working as an auto mechanic. With the support of his wife, Helen, he soon opened Chuck's Service Center on Ivory Road in Frewsburg. Chuck was proud to serve countless customers over the next 30 years. He performed all kinds of auto repair work and also sold Arctic Cat snowmobiles from the late 1960s until the early 1980s.
In addition to snowmobiling, he loved to hunt and fish. Having grown up in Corydon prior to the construction of the Kinzua Dam, Chuck was extremely familiar with the section of the Allegheny River that eventually became the Allegheny Reservoir. His knowledge of that particular waterway enabled him to become an extremely successful walleye fisherman there for many years. Chuck was also a member of The Samuel L. Derby Post 556 American Legion of Frewsburg and was the long-time sponsor of the Chuck's Service Center bowling team that had a great time at the Frewsburg Lanes for more than 40 years.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Helen; and his two children, Chuck Leichner (Shari) of Fredonia and Penny Bergman of Jamestown; a sister, Betty Fuller of Venice, Fla.; and a brother, William Leichner (Betty) of Jamestown. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Marcus LaBadie (Faith) of Olean, Cathy Sadowski (Ryan) of Frewsburg, Ben Leichner of Frewsburg, Joe Bergman (Kayla) of Fort Hood, Texas, Caleb Leichner of Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., and Brianna Ross and Joshua Bolles of Jamestown.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Leichner.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Peterson Funeral Home in Frewsburg, and the funeral will also be held at the Peterson Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Thursday.
The family suggests that memorials may be made on Chuck's behalf to the Frewsburg Fire Department.
