JOHNSONBURG - Chester E. "Chet" Gapinski, 91, 8 West Main St., Groton, Mass., formerly of 2nd Avenue, Johnsonburg, passed away early Monday morning (July 18, 2016) at Washoba Valley Medical Center, Ayre, Mass., following a short illness.

Chester was born May 1, 1925, in Johnsonburg.
He married Dorothy Marasco on June 4, 1947, in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. She died Feb. 24, 2011.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater as a Radioman Second Class with the FDAD Amphibious Company
He is survived by one daughter and one son, Renee (Terry) Lau of Merrimack, N.H., and Chester J. "Rusty" Gapinski of Groton; six grandchildren, William (Elena) Gapinski, Abigail (James) Cahill, Michael Lau, Jennifer (Michael) Lucarelli, Katherine (fiance Christopher Nyren) Gapinski and Elizabeth Gapinski; three great-grandchildren, William Chester "Liam" Lau, Adeline Cahill and Michael Joseph "MJ" Lucarelli; and one sister, Agnes Tassone of Johnsonburg.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded by a son, William Gapinski; brothers, Tom, Edward, John, Walter, Bernard and Robert Gapinski; and sisters, Helen Micklitsch, Genevieve Muroski, Sophie Lenze, Margaret Petzold and Vera Zambanini.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Thursday.
