JOHNSONBURG - Clarence A. Mowrey, 85, of 410 Clarion Road, Johnsonburg, passed away early Thursday morning (Feb. 28, 2013) at Elk Haven Nursing Home in St. Marys, following a brief illness.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas as a corporal of the U.S. Army in Japan with the HQ Co. 1st Engineer Group for which he received the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal-Japan.
He is survived by two daughters and one son, Mary Fedus and Barbara (John) Hetrick, both of Johnsonburg, and Donald "Don" Mowrey at home; three grandchildren, Michael Hetrick of Pittsburgh, and Marc (Katie) Hetrick and Amy Hetrick, both of Johnsonburg; two great-grandchildren, Marshall and Maggie Hetrick; two sisters and one brother, Edith "Charlotte" Milford of Rochester, N.Y., Ruth (Frank) Austin of Gerry, N.Y., and Charles "Chuck" Mowrey of Dunnellon, Fla.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Jay Tennies, pastor of the Johnsonburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Memorial contributions, if desired, should be made to The , Elk County Unit, 117 N. Michael St., St. Marys, PA 15857 or to Elk Haven Nursing Home, 785 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, PA 15857.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
