ELDRED - Daniel J. Causer Sr., 75, of Barden Brook Road, was called home by the angels on Monday (Dec. 21, 2015) following a lengthy illness.
Born March 22, 1940 in Betula, he was a son of Claude and Jenny Bell Cornelius Causer Sr. On Aug. 12, 1972 in Allegany, N.Y., he married Donna M. Slaugenhaupt, who survives.
Mr. Causer attended Hamlin Township Schools.
Mr. Causer served in the U..S Army for 22 ½ years from 1957 to 1979. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War in which he served two tours of duty in 1967 to 1968; and 1970 to 1971. He also served overseas in France from 1958 to 1960 and three tours in Germany, 1962 to 1966, 1972 to 1975 and 1976 to 1979. Following his military service he served another 20 years with the U.S. Postal Service, prior to his early retirement due to disability. He also owned and operated Causer's Tree Farm.
Dan was a member of the Bucktail Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, Eldred World War II Museum office. He was a member of the American Legion Post 138 in Smethport, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 72, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, a sponsor member of the Eldred World War II Museum, a member of Vietnam Veterans with a Mission in New Orleans, La. As well as being a member of the USAA, the Eldred Conservation Club and North Central Landowners Association of Pennsylvania.
He also belonged to the U.S. Air Force Association, the US Marine Corps Association, the U.S. Naval Association, the U.S. Army Association, and a sponsoring member of the USO. Dan was a member of these organizations on behalf of his brothers, sister and brothers-in-law who also served, 11 from the same family.
He was a proud member of the family of God at the First Church of God in Eldred, where he was instrumental in assisting with the building of the new church in 2005.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Daniel J. (Louise) Causer Jr. in Michigan, Jerry D. (Rochelle) Causer of Kane, and Jamie D. Causer in Florida; four daughters, Theresa (Larry) Giordano of Lewis Run, Tammy L. Walthall in Wyoming, Darletta Furman of Lewis Run, and Dawn M. Causer of Eldred; several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; as well as four brothers, Claude Causer Jr. of Hazel Hurst, Edward (Patti) Causer of Mount Jewett, Mike Causer of Lewis Run, and Paul Causer of Hazel Hurst.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald J. Causer in 2005; a great-granddaughter, Hailey Jo Furman in 2010; three brothers, George, Lavern and William Causer; and three sisters, Genevive Lindsey, Jeanetta "Toots" Thomas, and Lydia Brown.
Friends may call Dec. 29 at the First Church of God, Eldred, from noon to 2 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Jim Kazimer, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Grimes Cemetery, Port Allegany. Full military honors will be presented at the cemetery.
