JOHNSONBURG - Donna M. Sprague, 87, of 600 Woodland Ave., Johnsonburg, died Monday night (April 4, 2016) in Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 4, 1928, in Johnsonburg, she was a daughter of Joseph and Winifred Maloney Nitsche. On Aug. 26, 1950, in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, she married Sidney R. "Sid" Sprague. He died March 16, 2007.
Mrs. Sprague was a lifelong resident of Johnsonburg. She graduated from Johnsonburg High School in 1947. She was employed by Penntech Papers, retiring in 1991 after 21 years of service. She had worked at Stackpole Carbon Co. for a short time.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg Senior Center where she loved to play cards, and Central Hose Co. She helped deliver Meals on Wheels. She loved Bingo and going to casinos.
Surviving are a son, Lawrence "Larry" Sprague of Johnsonburg; three daughters, Peggy (Steven) Aharrah of Ridgway, Diane Oglesby of Johnsonburg and Lori Sprague of Wilcox; eight grandchildren, Jason and Ashley Leithner, Steve and Gary Aharrah, Derek Oglesby and Reina Kokoskie and Jake and Trysta Sprague; four great-grandchildren, Brooke and Karlee Leithner and Brandon and Justin Aharrah; a sister, Joan (Rudy) Ferragine of Johnsonburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Sprague; a daughter, Sandy Leithner; a grandson, Matthew Sprague; and grandson Michael Aharrah in infancy.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, with the Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
