WARREN - Doris E. "Meems" Christy, 94, of 55 Highland Drive, Warren, died Friday (April 11, 2014) at the Rouse Home of Youngsville.

Meems was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of the late Harry and Florence Schmidt Leiser.
She attended Bryant & Stratton Business School, where she met her husband, the late Evan E. Christy. She and her husband managed Northern Oil Co.; she later worked as the office manager for West Penn Oil, from which she retired.
Meems was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Warren, where she was a member of many groups and circles. Meems was a Gold Star Member of the Eastern Star, and a charter member of the Daughters of the Nile. She loved spending time with her family, especially at the family cottage in Maple Springs on Chautauqua Lake, cooking and was an avid bingo player - especially frequenting the Warren Senior Center and Pleasant Township Firehall.
She is survived by one son, Ronald E. (Coleen) Christy of Warren; six grandchildren, Ryan E. Christy of Warren, Todd P. (Joyce) Christy of Pittsburgh, Dean A. (Cathy) Christy of Winston Salem, N.C., Tom E. (Janet) Welch Jr. of Bradford, Brent M. Welch of Bradford and Christy (Rocco) Giquinto of Bradford; 13 great-grandchildren, Devan Christy, Lauren Christy, Sawyer Christy, Joshua (Julie) Ellis, Sarah Ellis, Natalie (Aaron) Corbin, Brent Welch Jr., Brandon Welch, Diana Welch, Alice Champion, Marty Murray, Elijah Highhouse and Kylie Highhouse; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Meems is preceded in death on Aug. 9, 1984, by her husband, Evan E. Christy, whom she married July 16, 1938, in Tonawanda, N.Y.; and her daughter, Janet May Welch.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc. 1003 Pennsylvania Ave., East, Warren, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and on Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 Market St., from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time a funeral service will be held there with the Rev. George Johnson, parish associate, officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Kane.
