JOHNSONBURG - Edwin P. "Kat" Polaski Sr., 92, of Bergen Street, Johnsonburg, died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2014) at Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.

Born Jan. 6, 1922, in Johnsonburg, he was a son of Peter and Stella Machcoviak Polaski. On Oct. 25, 1952, he married Dorothy Carnahan, who died June 20, 1979.
A lifelong resident of Johnsonburg, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked at the Johnsonburg paper mill for 47 years.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Surviving are eight children, Jim Polaski of St. Marys, Edwin Polaski Jr. of Emporium, Elizabeth "Betty" Carley of Kane, Patty Peles of Ridgway, Milly Simbeck of St. Marys, Alan Polaski of Johnsonburg, Ron Polaski of Johnsonburg and Patrick Polaski of St. Marys; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Erickson of Ridgway and Irene Wilcox in Maryland.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by seven sisters, Johanna Thorwart, Sarah Benedict, Mary Jackson, Elizabeth "Betty" Apthorpe, Martha Polaski, Frances Olewinski and Eva Polaski in infancy; 11 brothers, Stephen, Lawrence "Jack", Joseph, Michael, Leo "Pete", John Mason, Frank, Charles, Anthony, Chester and Norman; and one grandchild, Samantha Polaski.
There will be no public visitation. A public Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Johnsonburg, with the Rev. David Wilson as celebrant.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg/Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Service members are asked to assemble at the Ubel Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday.
Interment will be in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.
