EMPORIUM - Eleanor M. Umbenhauer, 85, of 110 E. 4th St., Emporium, formerly of Medix Run, died at Penn Highlands Elk in St. Marys on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 14, 2014).

She was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Medix Run, a daughter of the late Ernest and Harriet Boyce Crofutt. On Aug. 3, 1963, she married James Umbenhauer, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Umbenhauer retired from Sylvania-GTE, where she worked for many years.
She was a member of the Republican Party and was an avid bowler and golfer. Eleanor had been a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Emporium County Club and First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Richard "Rick" (Mary Jo) Kahnell of Emporium; a stepdaughter, Mary Ann (Ben) Scott of Chandler, Ariz.; and 16 grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Emerick; three stepsons, Jack, Robert and Richard Umbenhauer; and 14 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth St., Emporium, followed by the funeral service at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Andrew Johnson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
