PORT ALLEGANY - Ellen S. Johns, 55, of Route 155, passed away unexpectedly Saturday (Sept. 14, 2013) in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born Dec. 3, 1957, in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of John D. and Joyce A. Foreman Malone. On Sept. 29, 1990, in St. Thomas, she married William D. Johns Jr., who survives.
Mrs. Johns was a graduate of James Buchanan High School, St. Thomas, Class of 1975, and a graduate of Millersville State University, Millersville, Class of 1979.
Ellen had worked as an English as a second language teacher for the Bradford Area School District.
Mrs. Johns was a member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Port Allegany, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher and member of the WELCA. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Perry Chapter of Perry County, and loved to play bridge and was a member of several local bridge clubs.
Surviving, in addition to her parents John and Joyce Malone of Chambersburg, and husband, William; are a son, William J. Johns of Port Allegany; a daughter, Emily A. Johns of Port Allegany; two brothers, Philip (Sandy) Malone of St. Thomas and Thad (Sharon) Malone of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Albert W. Johns.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Port Allegany, with the Rev. Lawrence Scofield, officiating. Burial will be in Portage Valley Cemetery, Wrights.
