SMETHPORT - Ellsworth B. "Bones" Lathrop Jr., 83, of Crosby, died Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2012) in the Sena-Kean Manor, Smethport.

He was born May 31, 1929, in Crosby, a son of Ellsworth B. and Anna M. Weidert Lathrop Sr. He was first married to Clara Mae Jones. On Nov. 27, 1981, he then married Betty A. Bullers, who died on July 10, 2011.
He was a corporal in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. Mr. Lathrop was employed by North Penn Gas Co., now UGI, of Port Allegany, for 26 years. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of the Norwich Township Volunteer Fire Department of Crosby, where he was a past fire police captain, and of the American Legion John Berg Post #976 of Crosby, where he had been a past commander.
He is survived by one daughter, Sally Bennett of Reading; three sons, John (Cindy) Lathrop of Coleville, Joseph (Debra) Lathrop of Sinking Springs, and Charles (Gail) Lathrop of Crosby; several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; four brothers, Paul (Donna) Lathrop of Crosby, Richard (Darlene) Lathrop of Port Allegany, Andrew (Anne) Lathrop of Smethport, and Michael (Judy) Lathrop in Georgia; two sisters, Anna Mae Uber of Emporium and Orvella Luce of Crosby; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George, James and Donald Lathrop; and three sisters, Mary Jo Cooke, Betty Corbett and Pauline Black.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Randall Headley, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Crosby, officiating. Burial will be in the Norwich Cemetery, Colegrove. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion John Berg Post #976 of Crosby.
