Fred E. Schermerhorn, 77,  a loving husband, father and grandfather, formerly of Limestone, N.Y., passed away Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2014) at Bradford Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 1, 1937, in Carrollton, N.Y., he was a son of the late Charles M. and Harriett Langworthy Schermerhorn. On June 13, 1964, in Limestone, he married Twila Raught Schermerhorn, who survives.
He was a former member of the Cyclone Free Methodist Church, where he was baptized by the Rev. Glenn A. Hamilton on May 22, 1988. He enjoyed building things, working in his garage and just being outdoors.
Mr. Schermerhorn formerly worked at Pure Sil, and Hanley Brick, Bovaird & Seyfang, Sena-Kean Manor, and Kendall Refining Co. He retired from Bradford Forest Products after many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lorie Gault of Bradford; three sons, Fred E. Schermerhorn Jr., of Springfield, W.Va., Robert T. Schermerhorn of Cyclone, and Martin W. Schermerhorn of Cyclone; one sister, Doris Shonts of Smethport; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Betty Hutchinson, Joyce Anthony, Lucille Jackson, Patty Lawton and infant Isabelle; and two brothers, Charles Schemerhorn Jr. and Robert E. Schermerhorn.
Family will be receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 33 South Ave., where funeral and committal services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Lighthouse Community Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery.
