CORRY - G. Arthur "Art" Dingfelder, 68, of West Washington Street Ext., Corry, died on Friday (Oct. 17, 2014) at his home.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1945, in Corry, a son of the late Gary and LaVina Bailey Dingfelder.
Art was raised and educated in Corry, graduating from Corry Area High School in 1963. He enjoyed wrestling throughout his high school career. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served on the Mackinaw (cutter/ice breaker ship) as an electrician. Following discharge, Art returned to Corry and worked at Corry Jamestown Corp., for a year. Then he began at the Corry Post Office as a mail carrier, and later as custodian, until his retirement in 1998.
Art was diagnosed with acute myeloblastic leukemia in 1999. The family said his sister, Mary Ann, donated her stem cells for a stem cell transplant that extended his life for another 14 years.
He attended the Faith Evangelical Church in Corry and was a lifetime member of VFW Post #264. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, hunting, bowling, fishing, camping, woodworking, throwing horseshoes and going out for coffee with his friends. Art especially liked spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren and visits from his many friends and relatives.
Art is survived by his wife, Margaret "Margie" Kozik Dingfelder, whom he married on April 6, 1966, in Corry; a daughter, Sherry (Steve) Grenz of Corry; a son, Tom (Lori) Dingfelder of Corry; a sister, Mary Ann (Ray) Merriman of Port Allegany; and a brother, Larry Dingfelder of Corry.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Emily and Rachel Dingfelder and Taylor, Kyle and Kurtis Grenz; two cousins, Roberta (Jack) Freeman of Sherman, N.Y., and Bill (Lydia) Wykoff of Freeville, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews, who he treasured many wonderful memories with.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Faith Evangelical Church, 13444 W. Washington St. Ext., Corry, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Lynn Cirigliano will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry.
