CONEVILLE - Gary L. Elliott, 74, of Coneville and Lake Worth, Fla., entered into his eternal home with Jesus on Monday (Dec. 8, 2014) at Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a lengthy illness.
Born July 21, 1940 in Kane, he was a son of Clair A. and Bernice E. Swarthout Elliott. On Sept. 16, 1961, in Lake Worth, he married Nancy Harvey, who survives.
He was a graduate of Smethport High School Class of '58. Mr. Elliott served our country in the U.S. Navy attaining the rank of Radarman 2nd class. After active duty, he served in the Naval Reserves until 1964. He was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach, Fla., for 36 years, retiring in 1997.
Gary was a proud member of the National Rifle Association and was a staunch Republican. He was an avid outdoor sportsman, as he loved ocean fishing, diving in the Florida Keys, trout fishing and hunting, both small and large game.
Surviving besides his faithful and beloved wife of 53 years are two children, Robert "Bob" (Machelle) Elliott of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and Lisa (Daniel) Harvey of West Palm Beach; five grandchildren, Robby Jr., Jake, Hailey, Heath, and Emily, who will all miss him dearly. Also surviving are three brothers, Paul (Marilyn) Elliott of Smethport, Dale (Rose) Elliott of Winchester, Va., and Roger (Linda) Elliott of Lynchburg, Va. He was also loved by and will be missed by his best friends, Chuck Taylor and Jim Bush, as well as by many faithful nieces and nephews who watched over him during his final days.
In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Duane Elliott.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service and a celebration of Gary's life at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, with the Rev. Howard R. Burnham, pastor emeritus of Hebron Union Church, and Robby Elliott Jr., Mr. Elliott's grandson, co-officiating.
