KANE - Gary Lee Swedenhjelm, 77, formerly of Kane and Wilmington, Del., died Thursday evening (April 28, 2016) at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport.

Born May 22, 1937, in Kane, he was the son of Robert L. and Edith I. Peterson Swedenhjelm. He was married to Joan Groves and Goldie Bolt, both of whom preceded him in death.
A Vietnam era veteran in the U.S. Army, Gary was a carpenter for Bonvetti in Wilmington and, for 20 years, worked at the Wilmington Country Club.
Surviving are his daughter, Jacqueline Swedenhjelm of Wilmington; a sister, Ruth Swedenhjelm and a brother, Ramon Swedenhjelm, both of Kane; and two grandchildren, Skyler and Mia Starke, both of Wilmington. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death, besides his wives and parents, by sisters Helen Umpleby, Joyce Peterson and Cleo Fleeger; and brothers Darrell, Wendell, Paul, Tommy and Loren Swedenhjelm, plus a brother in infancy.
Friends may call from 1 until 2 p.m. on Monday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home Inc., at which time a service will be held there with the Rev. Bill Waterman, pastor of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kane, officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Tabor Cemetery, Kane.
