ST. MARYS - George J. Pistner, 95, of 813 South St. Marys Road, St. Marys, passed away Monday (June 1, 2015) at his home following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 15, 1920, in St. Marys, son of the late George and Barbara Weber Pistner. On Feb. 23, 1949, at Sacred Heart Church in Tucson, Ariz., he married Martha C. Werneth, who survives.
Mr. Pistner was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools. He, along with his late brother Harold, founded the St. Marys Box Co., which was established in 1955.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, passing much of his time at his camp. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time surrounded by his family and loved ones. A generous and family-oriented man, he will be missed for his quick wit and the laughter he brought to his family and friends.
Mr. Pistner is also survived by three sons, George J. (Sue Ann) Pistner, Donald W. (Anne) Pistner and Dennis H. Pistner, all of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Matthew G. Pistner, Megan M. Manning, Katherine "Katie" R. Pistner, Karen P. Geist, and Michelle A. Pistner; and four great-grandchildren, Alana Pistner, Adam Pistner, Elizabeth Pistner, and Benjamin Manning.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Kronenwetter; and five brothers, Alvin, Walter, Joseph, and Harold Pistner, and Joseph, who passed away in infancy. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center St., St. Marys, PA 15857; or the Elk County Catholic School System, Advancement Office, 600 Maurus St., St. Marys, PA 15857.
