KANE - Gertrude H. "Gertie" McGuire, 91, of 145 Elk Ave., Kane, died early Wednesday evening (June 18, 2014) at Kane Community Hospital after a brief illness.

Born Oct. 4, 1922, in Kane, she was the daughter of Giles and Marie Anderson Conklin. On Aug. 31, 1943, in Kane, she married James P. McGuire, who died in 1976.
Gertie was a waitress at the former Arcade Restaurant in the 1960s, and later worked at Stackpole for many years, both in Kane.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Kane, a long-time member of Mountain Grange #1307 in Kane, and volunteered at the Salvation Army in Kane for many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Perryman of Ridgway; three sons, Paul McGuire of Millerstown, Thomas "Turtle" McGuire of Mount Jewett and John McGuire of Warren, 15 grandchildren, including Jodi Jafari of Florence, Italy; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband and parents, by a sister; three brothers; and a niece, Maridel Conklin.
Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home Inc. in Kane from 6 to 8 p.m. today, and are invited to a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church in Kane with the Rev. Rebecca Taylor, pastor, officiating. Interment will have taken place earlier Saturday morning at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
