ELDRED - Gertrude Elaine "Peg" Rixford, 90, of 145 Indian Creek Road, Eldred, passed away Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2012) in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a short illness.
Born Aug. 29, 1922, in Bingham Township, she was a daughter of Walter H. and Gertrude A. McCarthy Cornell. In 1944, she married Frank McClune, who died in 1945. In 1947, in Ischua, N.Y., she married Hugh S. Rixford, who died in 1982.
Mrs. Rixford attended Duke Center Elementary School and was a graduate of Eldred High School. During World War II, she was employed at the former Eldred Munitions Plant and was later employed at the former Acme Electric in Allegany, N.Y.
She enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles and crocheting. She most especially loved spending time with her family.
Mrs. Rixford was a lifelong resident of Eldred.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon E. (Allen) Barber of Williamsport; a son, Michael E. (Bobbie) Rixford of Eldred; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren: a brother, Fredrick (Nancy) Cornell of Port Allegany; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Rixford was preceded in death by five sisters, Reba McCarthy, Laura Cornell, Arlene Cornell, Agnes Dates and Lorraine Malewicz; and a brother, Eugene Cornell.
At Mrs. Rixford's request, there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the or to the Sweden Valley Manor Patient Activity Fund, 1028 E. Second St., Coudersport, PA 16915.
