PHOENIX, Ariz. - Helen Sluga Romaine, 93, of Phoenix, passed away on Saturday (Jan. 4, 2014) with her family by her side.

She was born in Westline, Pa., on Feb. 3, 1920, to Frank and Mary Mohar Sluga. She married Lt. Col. Owen W. Romaine in 1947 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He passed away on May 11, 1989.
After graduating from Hamlin Township High School, she attended and graduated from Bradford (Pa.) Hospital Nursing School. On May 17, 1942, she joined the Army Nurse Corps and was discharged as a captain in 1947.
Helen worked as a nurse in various hospitals and has lived in Phoenix for 47 years.
Helen is survived by three children, Marsha, James and William; and a grandchild, Amanda. She is also survived by two sisters, Daisy Kobar and Norma Batista; and two brothers, Howard and William Sluga.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Mary and Julia Sluga and brothers James, Frank, Charles and Edward Sluga.
Funeral services were held on Jan. 10, 2014, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment was at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
