ELDRED - Herbert W. Lamphier, 92, of West Eldred Road, passed away Thursday (Nov. 5, 2015) in his residence following brief illness.

Born April 11, 1923 in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Herbert A. and Ida May Wainman Lamphier.
Herbert was a 1941 graduate of Eldred High School. He was a lifelong resident of the family farm on West Eldred Road; a portion of which was the Lamphier family cemetery which the Lamphier family donated to create Lamphier Cemetery.
He spent his life working his own and many other local oil leases, as well as operating the family farm.
Mr. Lamphier was a member of the Duke Center United Methodist Church, a founding member of the Allegany Mountain Engine Club, as well as P.I.P.P Oil Producers.
He enjoyed being outdoors, working on the lease, going for rides and dining out.
He is survived by his unofficially adopted son, Glenn (Theresa Pickup) Wank of Eldred; as well as several cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Francis Ruth McAulis.
Friends may call Monday at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Mary DuVall officiating. Burial will follow in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
