Jack A. Swanson, 83, of Willow Creek, passed away Monday (Aug. 24, 2015) at The Pavilion at BRMC.
Born May 23, 1932, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Carl E. and Bernice E. Foster Swanson. On Oct. 31, 1953, in Bradford, he married Dee E. Norton Swanson, who died on April 6, 2010.
He was a 1950 graduate of Bradford High School. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Jan. 9, 1952, and served during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 6, 1956.
After the service, he returned to Bradford to work for Carl E. Swanson & Sons, where he retired as president in 1991.
Surviving are one daughter, Cyndi (Larry) Weis of Pittsford, N.Y.; two sons, Evan (Barbara) Swanson of Tucson, Ariz., and Alan (Mary Copeland) Swanson of Bradford; three grandchildren, Carly Weis, Abby Weis and Hailey Swanson; one brother, Keith V. Swanson of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one brother, Peter Swanson.
Family will be receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 372 E. Main St., Bradford, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. W. LeRoy Beckes, retired Presbyterian minister, officiating. Committal services and military honors will be accorded in Willow Dale Cemetery by members of the American Legion Post 108.
