SMETHPORT - James D. Russell, 49, of Smethport, died Sunday (Nov. 10, 2013) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born April 3, 1964, in Lompoc, Calif., a son of Herbert A. "Mike" and Phyllis Jean McDowell Russell. On Aug. 13, 1992, in Harrisburg, he married Kathryn "Carrie" M. Button, who survives.
Mr. Russell was a 1982 graduate of Smethport Area High School and attended Lock Haven University, where he received a bachelor of science degree in special education.
He was a special education teacher, employed by Seneca Highlands Intermediate Unit 9 at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center in Port Allegany.
Mr. Russell was a member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 and the VFW Post #2497, both of Smethport. He was an avid fisherman and loved turkey hunting.
In addition to his wife, Kathryn "Carrie" Russell of Smethport, he is survived by one daughter, Evelyn L. Russell of Smethport; two sons, Owen M. Russell and Ayden G. Russell, both of Smethport; father, Herbert A. "Mike" Russell Sr. of Johnstown, Colo.; and two brothers, Herbert A. "Mike" Russell Jr. of Smethport and Mark A. Russell of Punxsutawney.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis J. Russell on June 15, 2011.
There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be announced at a later date and time.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., Smethport.
