LEESBURG, Fla. - Janet P. McCord, 79, of Leesburg, formerly of Bradford, Pa., and Titusville, Pa., passed away peacefully on Saturday (July 11, 2015) at the Lane Purcell Hospice House, following a brief illness.

She was born in Bradford on June 3, 1936, the daughter of the late Edward C. and Dorothy Thayer Prentice. Janet was married for 56 years to the late William G. McCord Jr.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Thayer and Robert.
Janet was a 1954 graduate of Bradford High School.
She was known everywhere she lived for her activity in charitable organizations. She gave many hours of her life to organizations, including the Bradford Welcome Wagon, the March of Dimes, the Titusville Women's Club and the Mended Hearts Society of Leesburg Regional Medical Center, where she served as president for many years.
Surviving are her sons, Timothy (Cynthia) McCord of Titusville, Thomas (Charlotte) McCord of Houston, Texas, Martin McCord of Leesburg and Dean (Marcella) McCord of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Jeffrey Prentice of Bradford; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Mr. Bill Proffit.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. July 21 at the South Pointe Baptist Fellowship, 25900 U.S. Highway 27, Leesburg, with the Rev. George Thomas, pastor, as celebrant. A luncheon for the family will be held at the church immediately following the funeral service. Inurnment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Mended Hearts Inc., c/o Walter Bogaert, 5252 Treasure View Way, Leesburg, FL 34748; or the Lane Purcell Hospice House, 2452 CR 526 E, Sumterville, FL 33585.
