SMETHPORT - Jean Ann Rice, 66, of Coleville Road, passed away Sunday (Feb. 17, 2013) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Born Sept. 2, 1946, in Olean, N.Y., she was a daughter of Ivan and Imogene Phipps Kelley. On Oct. 22, 1966, in the Eldred United Methodist Church, she married Roger Rice, who survives.
Jean was a 1964 graduate of Otto-Eldred High School. She had resided on Coleville Road since 1979.
Mrs. Rice was employed at the Olean Times Herald for several years, later she was employed by the Smethport High School in the guidance office as a secretary for over 25 years before her retirement in 2011.
She was a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association and a past member of the Forty Coachmen Camping Club.
She loved being with and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved shopping, going to garage sales and collecting Boyd Bears; later in life she became a NASCAR fan.
Surviving in addition to her husband is her mother, Imogene Kelley of Eldred; one son, Todd (Jodi) Rice of Smethport; two daughters, Lori (Joe Ezzolo) Rice of Duke Center and Kelley (Jim) Taggart of Coryville; eleven grandchildren: Brandon, Kyle, Amanda, Kiyah, Alicia, Jordyn, Bailley, Amy, Megann, Brittany and Broc; two brothers, Donald Kelley of Erie and Robert (Kelley Backus) Kelley of Farmers Valley; one sister, Debra Kelley of Eldred; and she is also survived by her God-son, Josh Stebbins.
She was preceded in death by her father on Oct. 5, 2011.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Gary Sheesley, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Farmers Valley.
