JOHNSONBURG - Jeffrey A. "Jeff" Sample, 61, of 148 School St., Kane, died on Monday (March 18, 2013) at his residence following a brief illness.
He married Janis M. Redmond on May 14, 1982. She died Oct. 31, 2011. He was a Vietnam era U.S. Army veteran serving overseas as an SP4 with A Battery 2 Battalion 3FA Regiment where he was a special weapons and artillery specialist.
He is survived by three brothers, Harry "Buck" Sample of Wilcox, James H. (Georgeanne) Sample of Smethport and Joseph (Kathleen "Kathy") Sample of Hickory, N.C.; six sisters, Jean "Norma" Swanson of Rasselas, Jane (David) Barber of Glen Hazel, Julie (Timothy) Valentine of St. Marys, Joyce (Tim) Smart of Clyde, N.C., Joanne (David) Andrus of Howard Siding and Leone Sigworth of W. Middlesex; many nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service for Jeffrey will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, Johnsonburg. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic Service will be conducted at the funeral home at 5:45 p.m. Friday. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg-Wilcox Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 7:45 p.m. Friday.
