KANE - Joan L. Swanson, 70, of 633 Wood St., Kane, passed away unexpectedly at St. Vincent's Medical Health Center on Thursday (Nov. 15, 2012).
Born Feb. 24, 1942, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Edla Gustafson Carlson. On April 25, 1964, in Kane, she married Ronald Swanson, who survives.
Mrs. Swanson was primarily a homemaker, but, in the past, was employed by New Process in Warren and Walker Printing in Kane.
She was a member of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she once had taken care of the Sunday School nursery.
Joan loved her pets, and she enjoyed bird-watching and working in her garden.
She and her husband, Ron, had raised their granddaughters, Allena and Victoria Swanson and were very active in their lives.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, is a daughter, Stephanie (Ed) Chandler of Kane; a son, Douglas (Lisa) Swanson of Oil City; two granddaughters, Allena and Victoria Swanson; two grandsons, Douglas Swanson Jr. and William Swanson; a stepgrandson, Matthew Chandler; a sister, Avis Ellingrod of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Robert Ellingrod.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Cummings Funeral Home Inc., where a Celebration of Joan's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
