CAPE MAY, N.J. - John C. Bishop, 72, of North Cape May, and formerly of Olean, N.Y., passed away suddenly on Friday (Nov. 18, 2016).
John graduated from Central Bucks High School in Doylestown, Pa. He attended West Chester University in the School of Music, then received his Registered Professional Nurse Diploma from the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pa., and his CRNA from the Montgomery Hospital School of Anesthesia in Norristown, Pa. He also worked as Director of EMT training program for a number of years. John worked in several hospitals throughout Pennsylvania and New York State, including Port Allegany Hospital in Port Allegany, Pa., St Francis Hospital in Olean, N.Y., and, ultimately spending 17 years at Cape May Regional Hospital, in Cape May Courthouse, N.J., before retiring in 2013.
John loved music and was very gifted, playing percussion for many years in marching band and in jazz bands. He was a huge NASCAR fan, visiting most of the tracks over the years, and became a part-time radio announcer for automobile racing. He was an outstanding cook, relished his time reading, and loved a good boxing match. John moved to the Cape May area, following his dream of living on the beach and enjoying the ocean. He had an extremely generous spirit and was truly loved by all who spent time with him.
He is predeceased by his parents, W. Paxson Bishop and Jane (nee Cadwallader) Bishop. John is dearly missed by his loving family, which includes his wife, Kathleen (nee Butler); 3 children, including two daughters, Kimberly Wolf (and Don Epp) and Kristy Kaliszewski and his son, Jason (and Melanie) Bishop; 2 stepchildren, Brian (and Amy) Falk and Nicole (and David) Stahlman; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of John's life is scheduled on his birthday, July 31, 2017 and will be held on the beach, under the hot summer sun, that John loved so much. More detailed information regarding the specific location and exact time will be available at during the month of July 2017. Please save the date and join us in this celebration of John's life! In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in John's name, to honor his granddaughter, Allison.
