John F. "Jack" Ritter (1931 - 2012)

John F. "Jack" Ritter, 80, of 125 Mark St., St. Marys, died on Saturday (March 10, 2012) at Elk Regional Health Center in St. Marys following a brief illness.
He was born July 23, 1931, in St. Marys, a son of the late Thomas and Agnes Lynch Ritter. On Feb. 24, 1962, in Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg, he married Joan Gapinski Ritter, who survives.
Mr. Ritter was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Sacred Heart Church. 
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received during the war.
He was employed at the former Pure Carbon for more than 40 years.
Mr. Ritter was a member of the American Legion and he enjoyed hunting, ?shing and gardening. He was a big fan of the Pittsburgh sports teams and also enjoyed walking. 
He was a gentle and caring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, Joan Gapinski Ritter, he is survived by three sons, John (Patty) Ritter of Weedville, Mark (Tina) Ritter of St. Marys and Michael (Shawna) Ritter of St. Marys; three daughters, Cecelia (Mark) Bankowski of Johnsonburg, Jane (Michael) Wolfel of St. Marys and Joyce Ann (William) Walker of Fairlawn, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Megan and Emma Bankowski, Amanda and Adam Wolfel, Tyler and Alexis Walker, and Cody, Emily and Hannah Ritter; and one great-grandchild, Poston Wolfel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Ritter; and a sister in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 325 Center St., St. Marys, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, O.S.B., as celebrant. Military honors will be conducted by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail. Burial will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
