ROULETTE - John H. Gregg, 81, of Roulette, died Sunday (Oct. 26, 2014) in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
He was born March 1, 1933, in Philadelphia, a son of Mabel MacDonald. On July 19, 1952, in Westmont, N.J., he married Nancy S. Eisenhardt, who survives.
Mr. Gregg was a graduate of Dobins Vocational Technical High School in Philadelphia. He attended Trenton State University, Temple University, and Rutgers University.
He was a teacher, employed by Camden County Vocational Technical High School as a sheet metal instructor, retiring in 1995. He also taught at Runnemede High School and Trenton Junior/Senior High School, both in New Jersey. He later worked for Richard Hawthorne in Inglis, Fla., in the sheet metal department. He also owned and operated his own sheet metal shop in Roulette for several years.
Mr. Gregg was a member of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, where he taught Junior/Senior Sunday School for many years. He and his wife were also foster parents in New Jersey, where they had 36 children and he had also been a Cub Scout leader in Levittown.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by two daughters, Susan (Joe) VanReymersdal of Yardley and Eileen (Steve) Albanese of Langhorne; one son, John H. (Cheryl) Gregg Jr. of Smethport; daughter-in-law, Kellanne Gregg of Langhorne; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and one son, Brian Gregg.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 105 N. Main St., Port Allegany. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, Port Allegany, with the Rev. Dale Post, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hill Cemetery, Roulette.
