TIGARD, Ore. - John Gilbert Swartzfager, 81, passed peacefully away at his home in Crooked River Ranch on Aug. 6, 2015.

John was born to John Bernard and Elizabeth Annette Murray on April 30, 1934 in Cyclone, Pa. He graduated from Bradford High in 1952. He married Elizabeth Joanne Reese on Oct. 20, 1956, in Smethport, Pa. They moved to Portland in 1962 and raised four children.
John spent 30 years working as a glassblower at Tektronix in Beaverton. He was active in his church, Living Hope Fellowship, in Aloha for 40 years. For the last 13 years, he lived in Crooked River Ranch, attending Terrebonne Assembly of God.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth; sisters, Dorothy Maholic, Mary O'Connell and Sharon Swartzfager, all in Pennsylvania, and Julie Glenn in Ohio; brothers, Lawrence Swartzfager in Utah, Bill Swartzfager in New York and Dennis Swartzfager in Pennsylvania; daughter, Rose (Edwin) Novak; sons, John Jr., Paul and Mark (Shari) Swartzfager, all in Oregon; eight grandchildren, Basil, Matthew (Carlee), Aubrey, Azure, Karen, Joshua, Emma and Truman; and two great-grandchildren, Marina and Maximus.
John was preceded in death by a sister, Cindy Fitzgerald; and a brother, Brian Swartzfager.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 22 at Terrebonne Assembly of God Church, 379 NW Smith Rock Way, Terrebonne, Ore. Attire is casual with a fellowship and reception meal to follow.
