DUKE CENTER - Josephine A. "Jo" Gross Warters, loving mother, grandmother and sister, of 802 Main St., Duke Center, passed away in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport, on Monday (March 2, 2015) after a short stay.
Born Nov. 10, 1935 in Olean, N.Y., the daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor Phelan Oliver. She married Richard R. Gross, who predeceased her, and later married Edward Warters, who also predeceased her.
Josephine was a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School in Duke Center and the St. Francis Hospital Practical School of Nursing. She worked at the Medical Arts Building in Olean for many years and was a member of St. Mary's Church, Sartwell. Josephine was an avid Elvis Presley fan. She enjoyed ceramics, writing letters and cards to family and friends. She left her Christmas tree up year-round changing the decorations for each holiday.
Survivors include her children, Joette (Carl) Bradt of Concord, N.C., Jody (Carl) Stone of Eldred and Mitchell Gross of Eldred; numerous grandchildren, a special grandson, Eric Gross; two sisters, Carole Cochran of Eldred and Jeanette (Richard) Fitzsimmons of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husbands and three sisters: an infant sibling; Mary Bigley; Jean Oliver.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 51 S. Main St., Portville, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Church, Sartwell. Rev. Tom Brown will be celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Sartwell. A Rosary Service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 7 p.m.
