COUDERSPORT - Karen Louise Johnson Nagengast, 78, died on Wednesday (July 29, 2015) at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital after a long period of declining health.

She was born on Dec. 2, 1936, in the Coudersport Hospital to C. Robert Johnson and Marion Boyd Johnson. She attended and graduated from Coudersport High School.
On June 15, 1963, she married Henry "Hank" Nagengast from Irvington, N.J. While in Irvington, they ran a luncheonette in a strip mall in Union, N.J. Their specialty was chicken. Karen also commuted by bus to Newark to work at an insurance company.
She was active in a bowling league and also enjoyed playing bingo. She loved cats.
Upon retirement, Karen and Hank moved back to live outside of Coudersport. She was a member of the Park United Methodist Church and was also active in the Ladies' Auxiliary of the American Legion Potter Post 192, the Red Hatters and the Senior Center.
She will be remembered by her friends and family members for her faithful sending of cards and phone calls for birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband after 41 years of marriage, her parents and several cousins. She is survived by many cousins and extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made to the Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department, the American Legion Potter Post 192 Ladies' Auxiliary or the Park United Methodist Church.
