Kathleen R. Carnes, 91, formerly of West Washington Street in Bradford, passed away Friday (Aug. 10, 2012) while in the company of her family, at her daughters' residence in Manhattan, N.Y.

Born Nov. 25, 1920 in St. Marys, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Hilda Jesberger Gerber. She attended St. Marys schools and graduated from Bradford High School in 1939.
On Nov. 5, 1945 in St. Bernard Church she married Robert V. Carnes, who died in May 1990.
She was employed as a clerk at A & P Grocery Store and had been employed by Newberry's 5 & 10 for eight years prior to working at the A & P.
Surviving is one daughter, Rita (Ray) Bergen of Manhattan, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Katrina and Zachary, both of New York, N.Y.; one brother, Leroy J. Gerber in California; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Marlin R. Carnes who was killed in Iraq while serving as Convoy Commander; three sisters, Evelyn Zoghibe, Marjorie Austin and Virginia Shall; and one brother, Floyd Gerber.
Family will be receiving friends from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 33 South Ave., where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Church, with the Rev. Raymond Gramata, pastor, as celebrant. Committal and burial services will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
