RIDGWAY - Kathryn E. Martin, 75, of 22 E. Main St., Mount Jewett, died Thursday morning (June 21, 2012) at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh following a short illness.

She was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Kane, the daughter of the late Charles and Helene Varos Kontes.

She had resided in Mount Jewett for most of her life after being raised in Ludlow. She was baptized at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Jamestown, N.Y. She had been a member of Mount Jewett Borough Council.

Kathryn was a 1954 graduate of Kane High School, graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree from Edinboro University and with honors obtaining her master's degree in education from Clarion University. She had been employed by the Kane Area Middle School as a school teacher for 30 years.

Surviving are three children, Terri (Andy) Chapman of Smethport, Charles (Jane) Johnson of Gainesville, Va., and Helene (Jonathan) DuShaw of Warren; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Alan Chapman, both of Smethport, Michael Dodge of Tucson, Ariz., and Mitchell Dodge of Warren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas (Darien) Kontes of Ridgway; one sister, Penny A. Magnuson of Naples, Fla.; and one nephew, Brian Kontes of Ridgway.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends will be received Tuesday at the Thompson Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church, Ridgway, with the Rev. Mary Norton, rector of the Grace Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
