BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - Kenneth J. Walter Jr., 86, of Bridgeport, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday (May 30, 2018) in the United Hospital Center.
He was born on Dec. 26, 1931, in Bradford, Pa., a son of the late Kenneth J. Walter Sr. and Grace Olive Laney.
Kenneth proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Germany working as a mechanic. He worked in the oil and gas industry his entire life. He was an oil field engineer and also worked in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Oklahoma. He retired in 1985. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and stock car racing. He also had a love for music and played the banjo, guitar and other stringed instruments. Kenneth was also a charter member of Bridgeport Free Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Carole (Boyers) Walter, whom he married on April 22, 1983.
Also surviving are four children, Marty J. (Sharon) Walter of Crosby, Texas, Mitchell J. (Margaret) Walter of Morgantown, Melanie (David) Smith of Parkersburg and Michelle (Richard) Shock of Woodbridge, Va.; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother Howard Walter.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m., where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, with the Rev. Jeff Stalnaker presiding. Interment will follow in WV National Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Duckworth presiding.
