Laura M. "Cookie" Burkett, 73, of Duke Center, passed away Sunday (March 8, 2015) at Sena Kean Manor, in Smethport.
Born April 1, 1941, in Bradford, she was the daughter of the late Edward Lee and Ellen Mae Albert Coast.
On Jan. 23, 1960 in Olean, N.Y., at the Shower Memorial EUB Church, she married Thomas E. Burkett who survives.
Mrs. Burkett attended Bradford Area Schools. She had worked at Zippo Manufacturing Co., Smethport Speciality in Smethport and W.R. Case Cutlery & Sons.
She enjoyed crocheting, camping and dirt track racing, but most of all spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She formerly attended Hilltop Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 55 years are two daughters, Laurie L. (Kendall) Lawhead of Eldred and Juanita Burkett of Duke Center; three sons, E. Tommy Burkett of Lewis Run, Timothy W. (Michele) Burkett of Gifford, and Terry (Tiffany) Burkett of Bolivar, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Donald E. Coast.
Family will be receiving friends on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Hilltop Baptist Church, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.
