PORT ALLEGANY - LaVerta J. Treat, 65, of Lower Portage Road, passed away Tuesday (May 31, 2016) in her home, after a brief illness.

Born Dec. 26, 1950, in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Herman E. and Dorothy E. Zinck Hildebrandt. On July 6, 1985, in Smethport, she married Leonard F. Treat Jr., who survives.
LaVerta was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1968, St. Francis School of Nursing, Olean, N.Y., 1972, later Alfred State University, RN degree in 1989, and Slippery Rock University, with a nursing home administrator certification.
Mrs. Treat worked for Cole Memorial Hospital and Sweden Valley Manor both of Coudersport, and later with PSA (Pediatric Services of America) before her retirement.
She was an avid gardener, and canner; but most of all loved being with her family.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Leonard, are two daughters, Denise R. (Brian) Russell and Keegan E. (Shane) Abbott, both of Port Allegany; two stepsons, Leonard F. (Lisa) Treat III of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Nicholas (Alicia) Treat of Fremont, Ind.; six grandchildren; a brother, Edward (Lynn) Hildebrandt of Port Allegany; and a sister, Sharon Dubots of Coudersport.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Randall Headley, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fishing Creek Cemetery, Roulette.
