EMPORIUM - Luzdelia "Lucy" Gutgsell, 93, of 48 Wheaton Hollow Road, Emporium, died at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, Thursday morning (Dec. 3, 2015).
She was born Oct. 17, 1922, in Panama, a daughter of the late Alcides and Benigna Barriou Dominguez.
On Oct. 31, 1970, in Dover, Del., she married Gerald "Jerry" Gutgsell, who survives.
She was a loving wife of over 45 years. In her younger years, Lucy performed her national dance at carnivals in Panama City. She and her older brother also taught the national dance to others. Lucy worked for the government in the Agriculture Department as a photographer. She later worked as the General Council of the Panamanian government in Philadelphia and Italy. Lucy came to the United States in 1961 and became a U.S. citizen in 1972.
She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, dancing, playing piano and bongos, fishing, gardening, sewing, and bargain shopping.
Surviving in addition to her husband Gerald "Jerry" Gutgsell are two sons, Thomas A. Gutgsell and Robert E. Gutgsell, both of Dover, Del.; a daughter, Edith F. Gutgsell of Dover, Del.; two grandchildren, Katrina and Gerald; and a sister, Tulia Alvarez in Panama.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters in Panama.
There will be no visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 E. Fourth St., Emporium, with the Rev. Paul S. Siebert, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in the Germania Cemetery, Galeton.
