JOHNSONBURG - Margaret "Peggy" Riley Abplanalp, 88, of Bridge Street, Johnsonburg, passed away on Tuesday (Nov. 18, 2014) surrounded by all three of her children at the home of her daughter Mary Costanzo in Ridgway.

She was born to Leon and Eleanor Donnelly Riley on June 18, 1926, in Johnsonburg.
She attended Holy Rosary School, Johnsonburg High School Class of 1944 and St. Johns (Pittsburgh) Nursing Program. She was a registered nurse who worked at the Johnsonburg Area School District, the Ridgway Hospital, and Stackpole Corp.
Peggy was married to Lester "Tappy" Abplanalp on Dec. 27, 1952; he preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1960. She is survived by her children, Mary Martha Costanzo of Ridgway, John (Lori) Abplanalp of Coudersport, and Leslie Walters of Melbourne, Fla., and her grandchildren, Gregg Costanzo, Lorinda Costanzo, Logan (Becky) Abplanalp, Evan Abplanalp and Riley Walters; as well as her great-granddaughter, Kylie Grace Abplanalp. She is also survived by her sister, Rita (Fred) Kubasak of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jim Riley, his wife Betty and their son, Peggy's godson, Jim, as well as her nephew, Gary Kubasak.
Peggy lived in Johnsonburg most of her life and was a member of Holy Rosary Church. She was very active in many community, church and civic activities and volunteered much of her time to several organizations.
The family respectfully suggests any desired memorials may be made to the Johnsonburg Public Library as Peggy was an avid patron; or to Community Home Health and Hospice.
Visitation will be held at the Ubel Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with additional visitation at the funeral home from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
