ST. MARYS - Martha E. Cheatle, 86, of 235 Muenster Road, St. Marys, died on Sunday (July 13, 2014) at Pinecrest Manor following a brief illness.

She was born on Feb. 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Horace and Martha McGill Horning. On Aug. 31, 1947, in the Emporium Methodist Church, she married Charles L. Cheatle, who preceded her in death in 2004.
Martha was a member of the Presbyterian Church and worked briefly at Sylvania until she became a homemaker. She loved crocheting, playing cards and cooking. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Surviving are six sons, Robert (Dorothy) Cheatle of Wilcox, Charlie (Michelle) Cheatle of St. Marys, William (Linda) Cheatle of Kersey, Steven (Lynette) Cheatle of Janesville, Wis., Jack Cheatle of Byrnedale and Gordon (Christine) Cheatle of St. Marys; two daughters, Martha (Brian) Poague of Johnsonburg and Lauretta Zimmerman of Wilcox; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren and one more on the way.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Cheatle, who preceded her in death in 1999; a daughter, Kathleen in infancy; two brothers, Charles and George Horning; and three sisters; Viola Mercahnt, Vida Gusberti and Lauretta Gale.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Weist officiating. Interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys.
