Martha E. "The Hat Lady" Williams, 92, of Bradford, passed away on Thursday (Sept. 22, 2016) at the Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1923, in Mount Vernon, Ind., a daughter of the late Joseph and Eunice Breeze Fiedler.
She was a 1942 graduate of the Reitz Memorial High School, Evansville, Ind.
On Dec. 29, 1945, in Evansville, she married Daryl R. Williams, who preceded her in death on May 14, 2013.
She was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church and the TOPS Club #16. She was a volunteer for many years at the Bradford Regional Medical Center. She loved to spend time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Williams was well known in the community as "Mrs. Claus" at the former "Christmas House" on Rockland Avenue. After a life of giving to others Mrs. Williams decided to give one final time by donating her body to the University of Buffalo for Medical Research.
She worked part-time for a number of years at the former Loblaw's grocery store and as a cook for many years at the former Bradford Central Christian High School.
She is survived by four sons, Dick (Linda) Williams of Bradford, Mike (Sandy) Williams of Limestone, N.Y., Mark (Joan) Williams of Allegany, N.Y., and Dennis (Stacy) Williams of Limestone; two daughters, Diane (Robert) Felmlee of Surfside Beach, S.C. and JoAnn (David) Zeleznak of Hinckley, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by one son, Gary "Smiley" Williams, one grandson, Michael G. Williams, one brother and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the St. Bernard Catholic Church, with the Rev. Raymond Gramata as celebrant.
Private burial will be held in St. Bernard Cemetery at the convenience of the family
