ELDRED - Mary M. DeBock, 92, of Main Street, passed away Monday (Feb. 25, 2013) at Bradford Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born April 24, 1920, in Heerlen, The Netherlands, she was a daughter of Joseph and Maria Beenen Demarteau. On June 26, 1941, in Heerlen, she married Jack J. DeBock, who passed away on Jan. 4, 1983.
Mary attended schools in The Netherlands and moved to Eldred in 1959.
She was employed as a sales clerk at Weston's Shoppers City for 25 years before her retirement.
Mrs. DeBock was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Eldred and the St. Raphael Altar Rosary Society. She was a past member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the Eldred Senior Center and was a major contributor to various charities.
Mary loved knitting, crocheting and reading; she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons, Frank DeBock of Eldred and Anthony (Julie) DeBock of Bradford; four daughters, Gertrude (Julian) Baldoni of Eldred, Mary Lou Rahr of Huntington, Ind., Anne (Larry) DiCenzo of Charleston, S.C., and Jacqueline (Douglas) Mitchell of Pittsford, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Annie Winteraeken and Wies Demarteau, both of Heerlen. She is also survived by her uncle, the Honorable Bishop Wilhelmus Demarteau.
She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Capt. Douglas DiCenzo in 2006 and Andrew James DeBock; as well as five brothers, John, Peter, Leo, Tony and Frans Demarteau.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael Church in Eldred with the Rev. Thomas E. Brown as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Raphael Cemetery, Eldred. The Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
