ST. MARYS - Mary J. Krug Schlimm, 76, of 480 Dippold Ave., St. Marys, passed away Tuesday (Dec. 17, 2013) at her home unexpectedly.
She was born Jan. 15, 1937, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Edward and Clara Hasselman Krug. On June 28, 1958, in Queen of the World Church, she married Harrison Schlimm, who survives.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1955. She was a retired employee of the St. Marys Area School District, where she had worked for more than 30 years.
Mary served on St. Marys Borough Council and was then elected to the newly formed St. Marys City Council, and she was a longtime member of the library board. She enjoyed playing cards with her Tuesday night card club, reading, puzzles and spending time with her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann (Mike) Graml of Erie, Julie (Craig) Newton of St. Marys and Krista (Greg) Wood of Glen Mills; two sons, Randy Schlimm of Glenn Hazel and Ed (Kim) Schlimm of St. Marys; 14 grandchildren, Chelsea Graml, Shelby Graml, Michael Schlimm, Richard Schlimm, Alyssa Cunningham, Crystal Spence, Samatha Schlimm, Ryan Newton, Taylor Newton, Tori Newton, Payton Newton, Madison Wood, Lauren Wood and Sarah Wood; three great-grandchildren, Bethany Cunningham, Jill Cunningham and Grant Spence; and three sisters, Dorothy Marciniak of Cumberland, R.I., Clara (John) Bezek of Cape Carteret, N.C., and Twila (Jude) Gleixner of St. Marys.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rita Straub and, in infancy, Martha Krug; and by six brothers, Richard, Gilbert, Raymond, James, Earl and William Krug.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery.
