ELDRED - Mary C. "Cad" Shay, 82, passed away on Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2014) at the Morton Plant Hospital in Largo, Fla. following a brief illness.
Born March 21, 1932, in Brookville, she was a daughter of William and Laura Shobert Frampton. On Oct. 30, 1950, in Washington, D.C., she married John R. "Crow" Shay, who survives.
Mary was a 1950 graduate of the Eldred High School. She and her husband had spent winters in Largo, Fla., for many years. She had been employed by the Market Basket in Eldred in the meat department for many years. Mary was later employed as a bus driver for Todd Bus Co. in Eldred.
She was a member of the Eldred United Methodist Church and was active with their choir. She had also sang with the Passion Play at the Coudersport Consistory for many years. Cad was an avid bowler and had bowled in Bradford leagues for many years. She also enjoyed playing cards and had belonged to the same card club for many years. She was an avid reader.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Dick Shay and Randy (Kim) Shay, both of Eldred; and two daughters, Becky (William) Bailey of Sturgis, Mich., and Mary C. Shay of Eldred; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, William Frampton of Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Nancy (Jack) Gilfert of Eldred; and several nieces and nephews.
Cad was preceded in death by a sister, Joann Minnich in 2005.
There will be no visitation and private funeral services will be held at a later date at the convience of the family.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Eldred Area Free Library and Historical Society or to the Eldred Ambulance Fund.
