RIXFORD - Maxine M. Porter, 75, of Rixford, passed away on Friday (Feb. 27, 2015) at her residence following a long illness.

Born Aug. 24, 1939, in Allegany, N.Y., she was a daughter of John and Catherine Hamilton Morris. On March 28, 1959, in the Methodist Church in Smethport, she married Edgar C. Porter, who survives.
Maxine had attended Shinglehouse schools and had resided in Rixford since 1972. She had been employed at Viko Furniture in Eldred for 10 years and later for Sena-Kean Manor for eight years. Prior to her retirement, Maxine drove the ATA bus in McKean County.
She was a member of the Rixford Evangelical Church, a member of and past president and secretary of the Otto Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, member and past secretary of the Tri-County Fire Fighters Ladies Auxiliary, member and past secretary for 38 years of the Tri-County Fire Fighters Association and most recently the director of the Tri-County Fire School. Maxine was an outstanding bowler and enjoyed doing crafts and gardening.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three sons, Roger Porter and Scott Porter, both of Rixford, and Kenny (Eileen) Porter of Huston, Texas; four grandchildren, Elijah and Kennedy Porter, Ashley Parker and Ashley (Michael) Hasty; two great-granddaughters, Amelia and Ellyana Hasty; two brothers, Eugene (Arlene) Morris of Fayetteville, N.C., and John (Shirley) Morris of Raleigh, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Maxine was preceded in death by a son, David Porter; and a stepfather, Stanton Jones.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday (not 11 a.m. as previously published) at the Rixford Evangelical Church with the Rev. Norman Cox, pastor, and the Rev. Frank Hill, co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery in Smethport.
