Melvin C. Dillen, 76, of Emporium, passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan House in Wexford on Friday evening (Sept. 2, 2016) following a short illness.
Born April 4, 1940, in Utahville, he was the son of Raymond C. and Mabel I. Semple Dillen. He graduated from BCI High School, Coalport, in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
Melvin was employed at Penn Vend in Emporium for many years, retiring in 2002. He was a long-time member of the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department, loyal member of the Emporium Fire Police and was a volunteer EMT for the Emporium Ambulance Association for many years. He was a member of the Bucktail Rod and Gun Club, Cameron County VFW and American Legion Post #194.
Melvin loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener and hunter, but his true passion was fishing. He also was a huge fan of the Pirates and Steelers. He was a kind man, proud of his home and family, a storyteller with a quick wit and sense of humor.
He loved his dog "Trixie."
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of 28 years; two sons, Jamie (Dana) of Charlotte, N.C., and Chuck (Val) of Eagle River, Alaska; one stepdaughter, Dr. Marsha Haley of Seven Fields; two granddaughters, Lauren Elizabeth Haley of Seven Fields and Randi Moate of Emporium; a grandson, Tygue of Alaska; two brothers, Ellis (Blairetta) Dillen of Chardon, Ohio, and David (Nanci) Dillen of Mooresville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Alvin, Norman and William.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth St., Emporium. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Barnett Funeral Home, Emporium, with the Rev. Joseph Short, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Barnett Funeral Home Inc., Emporium.
