Mildred Thelma "Millie" Connor Woodley Russin, 94, of Tionesta, formerly of Bradford, Pa., died Thursday (Jan. 3, 2013) at the Presbyterian Home in Oil City.
She was born April 4, 1918, in Morgantown, W.Va., daughter of the late Brian and Emma Rogers Connor. On April 6, 1936, in Allegheny, N.Y., she married her first husband, Raymond Woodly, who died April 16, 1984. On Feb. 14, 1987, in Bradford, she married her second husband, Norman B. Russin, who survives.
Millie spent most of her working career at the Corning Glass Works in Bradford, retiring in 1979. She had served as president of the Union Local #1010 International Glass Workers for 10 years. She also retired from Kmart Stores, where she worked as a greeting card distributor, and she worked a number of years in the cafeteria at the University of Pittsburgh, Bradford campus.
Mille has been a member and past president of the Bradford Cootiette Club since 1947. She retired from work early at the age of 60 to become the national president of the Supreme Cootiette Club of the United States serving in '79 to '80, and then again served as national president more recently from '06 to '07. She was past president of the Pennsylvania Grand Cootiette Club. Mille was the Cootiette's representative to the Butler Veterans Hospital for 32 years and served hospitalized veterans for more than 60 years. Helping veterans was her passion in life.
Millie served as past president and life member of the Frances Sherman VFW Auxiliary of Bradford, past president of North Western Counties Council of the VFW Auxiliary, and past president of District 19 of the VFW Auxiliary.
Millie also served on Tionesta Borough Council for 12 years.
Surviving, in addition to her loving husband Norm of nearly 25 years, are several children, grandchildren, great-and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a brother, Donald Connor from Connecticut also survives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Millie Ray (Woodly) Sabat; three brothers; and two sisters.
There will be no public visitation. Friends are welcome to attend a memorial service to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta with the Rev. Marshall Lillie, chaplain, Hospice of Crawford County. Burial will be alongside Millie's parents at Willow Dale Cemetery in Bradford.
