EAST AURORA, N.Y. - Nancy Jane McCready, 88, beloved wife of the late James Shanley McCready, of East Aurora, died peacefully New Year's Eve (Dec. 31, 2014) at Sisters Hospital surrounded by loving members of her family.
Born Nancy J. McCutcheon on Nov. 25, 1926, in Bradford, Pa., she was the daughter of Dr S.A. and Lucille Rook McCutcheon.
Nancy graduated from Bradford High School in 1944 and from Westminster College in 1948, having earned a BA in Elementary Education. An excellent golfer growing up, she won several tournaments at the Penn Hills Country Club and remained a sports enthusiast her entire life. She was an active member of the Beuleah Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star serving a term as the Matron. Nancy was an avid bird watcher, gardener, aerobics fanatic and lover of the arts enjoying Buffalo Philharmonic seasons tickets. A longtime member of Baker Memorial United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School, she especially enjoyed listening to the pipe organ amidst the beauty of the Tiffany stained glass windows. She enjoyed travelling extensively with her husband and later her sisters.
She is survived by her children Nancy Sue (Frank) Foltz, Julie (Tim) McNamara, Mac (Heidi) McCready and 8 grandchildren - Justin, Jimmy, Jenny, Emery, James III, Lucy, Peter and Spencer; and four great-grandchildren, Kendrick, Mia, Emma and Anderson. She is also survived by her siblings Dr. Sue McCutcheon and Gerry (Monica) McCutcheon, and nine nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m Jan. 24 at Baker Memorial Church in East Aurora. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baker Memorial Tiffany Window Fund, 345 Main St, East Aurora, NY 14052.
