PORT ALLEGANY - Opal J. Moshier, 88, of East Mill Street, passed away peacefully on Monday (Feb. 10, 2014) in her home after a lengthy illness.
Born April 1, 1925, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Clem and Myrtle Rhoades Baum. On June 14, 1948, in Port Allegany, she married Richard Moshier, who died Nov. 6, 1972.
Opal was a long-time resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, Class of 1943.
Mrs. Moshier had worked for the Cameo Doll Factory in Port Allegany for seven years, as a secretary for attorney Jim Isherwood for three years, and most recently, as a bank clerk with First National Bank in Port Allegany for 30 years before her retirement.
She was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Port Allegany, where she served on the church council, and was a past president of the Gethsemane Lutheran Women.
Surviving are a son, Duane D. (Sarah) Moshier of North Huntingdon; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Moshier of New York City and Patricia Mancuso of Dunkirk, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Jacob (Jessi) Moshier of Santa Cruz, Calif., Erin (Sam) Moshier-Alpar of Henryville and Troy Moshier of North Huntingdon; three great-grandchildren, Elia and Miles Moshier of Santa Cruz and Fiona Skye Alpar of Henryville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; a son, Dean Moshier; two brothers, Merle and Lester Baum; and three sisters, Geraldine Ernst, Maebelle Kennedy and Imogene Baum.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Port Allegany with the Rev. Randall Headley officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
