OLIVER SPRINGS, Tenn. - Paul Eugene Barndt Jr., 76, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 17, 2015) at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Mr. Barndt was born Oct. 15, 1938, in Bellefonte, Pa., to the late Paul Eugene Barndt Sr. and Kathryn Watson Barndt Williams.
At the age of 12, Paul and his family moved to Smethport, Pa., where he graduated from Smethport High School in 1956. In 1959, Barndt entered the U.S. Army and served his country until 1962, when he was honorably discharged. On June 10, 1967, he married his wife of 47 years, Roberta Smith Barndt.
Paul's career as a geologist led the Bardnts to live in 14 different states and the country of Saudi Arabia. Mr. Barndt received a bachelor's degree in geology, a master's degree in geography, and a bachelor's degree in economics during his career.
Paul moved to Oliver Springs in 1991 and continued his career at the Department of Energy in Oak Ridge until his retirement.
Paul loved to read and also working on his family's genealogy with his relatives.
Paul is survived by his wife, Roberta Smith Barndt and by stepbrothers, John Williams of Missouri, Joseph Williams of Virginia, and James Strunk of Pennsylvania.
The family will receive friends between the hour of 1 and 2 p.m. today at the Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor John Slater officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
