PORT ALLEGANY - Paul W. Evens Sr., 91, of Port Allegany, died Tuesday (April 3, 2012) at his home.
 He was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Birch Run, a son of Benny and Mabel Whitney Evens. On May 10, 1941, in Port Allegany, he married Marion E. Curtis. She died April 11, 2004.
Mr. Evens attended schools in Angelica, N.Y. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Evens was a backhoe operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and for his own private service. He also worked at Pittsburgh Corning Corp. for many years. During his years of employment he found time to operate his own farm.
Surviving are two children, Penny M. (Buck) McGarvey and Gary C. Evens, both of Port Allegany; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his two sons, Paul W. Evens Jr. and James B. Evens; one brother, Edward Evens; two sisters, Mary Jane Farnum and Grace Demick; and one grandson, Michael A. Evens.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 105 N Main St., Port Allegany, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Michael Culver, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
